What with all of the law firms established around the country, isn’t it amazing that legal marketing has only been in existence for a little over 40 years? Today, we see lawyers explaining their valuable services on TV, on billboards, in newspapers, direct mail, and, more recently, on websites, blogs, and podcasts. How did we get to this point in such a relatively short period of time?
For as long as attorneys have been in existence, they’ve usually gained new clients through word-of-mouth or referrals. Every community had a local attorney that people turned to out of trust – or lack of alternative. It was easy to locate them. They usually had their name painted in gold leaf or hanging from a fancy shingle outside of their building.
